Three examples of Social Project at LOCAL LEVEL
During the December 2021 transnational meeting in Barcelona, we split our participants into three different working groups, and we ask them to write three social projects.
Each group worked on how to solve a social problem in two different ways: locally and internationally.
In this article, we want to show you how they tackled problems at the local level writing three projects.
A project can be tackled locally or internationally, with some practical differences in activities, inputs and outputs.
When a project is approached at the local level, the main focus is the community and the environmental problems and resources. To find the best solutions it's necessary to start by the community analysis.
Our participants approached three different target groups.
- Young refugees
- Wheelchair needed
- Teen Transgenders girl
The first group
Name of the project: REFUGEESPORT!
Target: Young refugees in Barcelona
Objective: Include Young refugees in Barcelona through Sport.
Specific Objectives and actions:
1) Raising awareness of the Barcelona Refugees’ status.
2) Understand how Sports Associations can include them in their program.
3) Sharing of best practices used by other sports associations.
3) To train them for competitions in order to give them a sense of community and participation.
4) Support them with financing and equipment.
The first group had as its target the help that sport can give to young refugees in Barcelona.
The objectives were to help risk categories through raising their status, train them for competitions, support with financing and equipment. The teachers obviously have to help the refugees with inclusion and socialization.
The activities thought by this group to reach the objective they have set start from meetings where the people at risk can socialize and confront with the coaches. The associations can organize an event to make known the situations of people at risk of poverty and social exclusion. This event could be financed by crowdfunding, also charities could help to improve the conditions. Obviously the most important thing that these associations can put in place is to allow all these people at risk to be able to train without problems.
The second group
Name of the project: SPORT+⚧
Target: Young Transgender in Sofia, Bulgaria
Objective: Include Young Trangender through Sport.
- The objectives of this group was to raise awareness about transgender issues and their level of inclusion and acceptance in Sofia, Bulgaria.
-Raising awareness on the LGBT+ participations in Sports.
-sharing best practices on the inclusion of LGBT+ people in sports associations.
-to promote voluntary activities in sports that further social inclusion and equal opportunities.
The second group had as target a young transgender person in Sofia.
The objective of this group were raising awarness about the transgender issues and their level of inclusion and acceptance, among the sport associations and the community they live in. Another objective is to promote voluntary activities in sport that further social inclusion and equal opportunities. In the end create and strengthen cooperation between the partners in the field of inclusion.
The activities that this group has thought to put in place to achieve these goals are workshop about human rights based on what they have learned during the meeting co-financed by Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. Also they think about a football match and a volleyball match with teams composed of people of any sexual orientation and without gender difference, trying to involve as many local entities as possible and maybe making, before or after the matches, flash mobs for work on transgender rights and inclusion. The local sport clubs who participate in these initiatives should open their gyms and fields to show that this kind of inclusion is possible.
The third group
Name of the project: No one is left behind
Target: Disable people in Rome
Objective: Include disabled people - wheelchairs need - through Sport!
The third group focused on physically disabled people.
The objectives of this group are:
- to map the social services in Rome and to communicate
- to give financial help to these people to allow them to buy sports materials suitable for their condition.
- to motivate them to try to do sports despite their physical condition.
- Create a network of all abilities-people who wants to practice sports to raise self-confidence and break the monotony of the day that all seem equal.
Actions:
- Sport Competition open to all abilities-persons from different countries.
Risk:
- overcoming the psychological aspects that block disabled people from practising sports and the practical arrangements.
The third group targeted physical disabled people in Rome.
The objectives of this group are to give economic help to these people to allow them to buy sport material suitable for their condition and above all to motivate them to try to do sport in spite of their physical condition and possible shame due to insults from other people.
The project proposes as an activity to organize a competition for disabled people from every neighborhood of Rome. The important part of this match is not the competitions but to overcome the psychological aspects that block disabled people, meet other people who suffer the same problem to make them compare with each other and show that they are not alone, raise self-confidence and break the monotony of the day that all seem equal.
In conclusion, all groups agreed to organize training sessions to promote the importance of sport as a form of help for at-risk youth, disabled people, transgender people and refugees for staff and volunteers of their organizations who need to have the right tools and knowledge to give a concrete help.
